For the first in-person ILI intensive of ILI Year 5, the Fellows, ILI Partners and team gathered in Jackson, MS. Hosted by ILI Partner the Mississippi Center for Cultural Production, the 4+ day intensive started in Jackson, traveled to the Mississippi Delta, and culminated in Utica, MS - Sipp Culture’s hometown.

ILI in the South/ROOTS
For the second in-person ILI intensive of ILI Year 5 hosted by Alternate ROOTS, the Fellows, ILI Partners made their way to New Orleans, LA. Despite the uncharacteristic chilly weather, we spent 4+ days in and around the city, digging deeply into the complex culture of this place. From spiritual gathering spots, to a day of remembrance at a plantation, to an exploration of the different indigenous and immigrant experiences, this intensive continued the Fellows' journey of intercultural learning, understanding, and togetherness - all through the lens of arts and culture.

After nearly 6 months of virtual intercultural exploration, the ILI Year 4 Fellows and FamILI finally got to come together for the first of two in-person weekend intensives. Hosted by ILI partner Alternate ROOTS, this in-person learning and community experience was held at Franklinton Center at Bricks in Whitakers, North Carolina (Lumbee, Skaruhreh/Tuscarora, and Saponi Territories).

ILI Hawai'i/PA'I
For the first in-person ILI intensive of ILI Year 6, the Fellows, ILI Partners and team gathered in Honolulu, HI. Hosted by ILI Partner PA'I Foundation, the 4+ day intensive included grounding experiences in personal and environmental wayfinding, visits to cultural and historic museums, and the sharing of wisdom from local artists, activists, and culture keepers.

For the second in-person ILI intensive, the ILI Year 4 Fellows, ILI Partners and team gathered on the Big Island of Hawai’i. Hosted by ILI Partner PA’I Foundation, the 4-day intensive started on the west coast area of Kona and wrapped up in the east coast town of Hilo. From beaches, to forests to sacred volcanic mountain sites, the gathering brought the Fellows and attending ILI community together for arts & cultural learning, deep discussion, and understanding through hands-on experience and direct storytelling.
