Born on Syilx land on Turtle Island, I grew up a displaced Hawaiian. Several years ago my husband and I had the opportunity to move our Ohana home to Hawai’i nei to give our keiki many of the opportunities I didn’t have as a young person. Since then, I have been pursuing ways to communicate the complexities of growing up displaced, being hapa or mixed race, engaging in capitalist culture, fighting back against patriarchal and classic ‘western’ values, etc. through my writing and artwork. I recently had a show with 20 pieces on display around these concepts at Kahilu Theatre.
