María Cherry Rangel is a New Orleans based cultural organizer, philanthropy strategist, and revolutionary focused on creating a justice oriented arts movement. As co-founder of Mangos with Chili (2005-15), she developed the work of 150+ queer and trans artists of color. She has led several efforts to move arts funders towards more equitable funding practices, including serving as Equity Auditor for the 2017 MAP Fund panel, co-authoring Ford Foundation’s Southern Scan report, and shaping Foundation for Louisiana’s statewide arts strategy. She leads with her lifelong commitment to ensuring that the work of underrepresented artists is celebrated, recognized, and always possible.
