Monica Villarreal, an indigenous Xicana mother, artist, organizer, and culture bearer, passionately advocates for indigenous rights and land sovereignty. Her artwork explores gender roles, migration, police brutality, and social/environmental justice, exhibited at venues like DiversWorks, Project Row Houses, Art League Houston, and Santa Fe Arts Institute. A community leader, Monica co-founded grassroots organizations—Xochipilli Collective, Creative Women Unite, and Danza Azteca Taxcayolotl. Wearing various hats, she seamlessly combines advocacy, art, and culture. Monica is a grant recipient of BIPOC Arts Network and Fund, and the Houston Endowment. She holds an M.A. in Digital Media and a B.A. in Entrepreneurship.
