African American Chicago-born, Philadelphia-based performer, choreographer, educator, and cultural organizer, Dr. yaTande’s artistic practice thrives at the intersection of dance-performance as a spiritual, social and political endeavor. Working as a contemporary dance-performance artist is an activation of the catalytic possibilities of art. Dr. yaTande’s research in the interrelations of the sacred and the secular are grounded in a confluence of his formal engagements in African spiritualities, as an initiate and priest, informs his contemporary art practice, global philosophic and theoretical approaches. He has gained such insight through his long-term affiliations with numerous globally recognized artists, culture workers, companies, and institutions.
