Initially the Artist-in-Residence at the Mississippi Museum of Art, daniel johnson became the Director of Engagement and Learning in 2013. As a Socially Engaged Artist, johnson’s work focuses on problemsolving and capacity building with communities. daniel’s art takes a variety of forms such as writing a NEA Our Town grant with residents of the Midtown neighborhood, conducting a statewide work bringing together 2,222 symbols submitted by Mississippians into a 12’x18’ windchime of handmade clay bells, and most recently working with the Jackson Mayor’s Youth Initiative and Jackson Public Schools to employ students in his work “The Art of Governance.”
