Jesus Mario Contreras creates independent documentaries that highlight Latino identity in the Midwest. He earned his MFA from Columbia College Chicago and teaches film and video courses at Harper College and College of DuPage. He’s a fellow of Kartemquin Films’ Diverse Voices in Documentary, the National Alliance for Latino Arts and Cultures Leadership Institute, and a participant in the Immigrant Workers Freedom Ride.
His documentaries have won awards, screened at festivals and aired on public television. His autobiographical documentaries the demonstrate generational growth and trauma of a family in the suburbs of Chicago.
